Redhat 8 troubles

I've been having some serious problems with redhat 8.

1) Something wrong with X windows. GNOME/KDE/WindowMaker all have these very annoying bands 3/4 of the way down the screen.

I have installed the latest linux drivers for my video card and still no change. :(

2) Why does it freeze so much!? I can't leave it on for more than 3 hours before it freezes. I have plenty of harddrive space/RAM. Please don't tell me to change the distro/version.

I'm totally frustrated and will graciously accept any help that I can get. Thanks in advance :)

Boy sounds like you have some major issues here. It definetly should NOT be freezing every 3 hours. You probably have some serious hardware issues. I noticed you have some updates available. May I ask what updates are available? Many time you just need to update to the newest software to get things working correctly especially if you are using a newer machine.

Just a thought...

8 sucks, try 9 or 7.3

jt1020 05-30-2003 09:32 AM

I agree... Red Hat 8 really sucks.... Red Hat 7.3 and 9 are the best versions of Red Hat so far...

Well thanks everybody. Thanks for reminding me Crashed but updating still didn't help. :( It seems if linux is so rock stable then I got the limestone of linuxes. I guess that I'm just gonna have to change the version. Which if you ask me it's kind of pathetic that a whole version of linux doesn't work, it's also really disappointing.

I didn't have any big issues with 8.0 but thats just me. Maybe I just got lucky. Just download 9.0, throw the disc in and choose Upgrade. It may solve are your problems.

Really? I was just giving some advice. I found that upgrading helps a lot sometimes. Once, sendmail was not working at all and I was not about to troubleshoot those crazy sendmail configuration files. I upgraded and it was magically fixed!

ahhh...the power of upgrades.

jt1020 05-30-2003 09:22 PM
