Thumbs up redhat 8.0 install exited abnormally

I fixed this problem, but unfortunately I do not know how to change it so that it no longer shows up on this website as a post. Therefore I have simply added this text but kept the problem below just in case someone else is having the same issue and I will be able to help them.

I am having trouble installing Red Hat Linux 8.0, and any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased the ďRed Hat Linux 8 BibleĒ and have tried to install it from the CDís in the book. I have tried installing as a server, as a desktop, and have tried upgrading my installation. Each time I do the install, it goes through the first 2 cdís properly (ie the time left on installation is 0.00) and I get a black screen with error messages. I have had the following error messages:

GnomeCanvas-Critical: file gnome-canvas-path-def.c: line 1142
Gnome_canvas_path_def_any_closed;
assertion path!=null failed

I have also received, on different installations or upgrades, the following error:
unable to mount root fs on 09:02.

On a reinstall, I get the following message:
No Kernel packages were installed on your system
Your book loader configuration will not be changed.

I am running the following:
Dell Dimension 4100
128 mb ram
Western Digital 100gb hard drive (drive 1 using windows)
Quantum 20gb hard drive (drive 2 trying to install linux)
ATI All in wonder 7500 video card
Sound blaster live sound card
Creative Modem Blaster USB modem

Any help any one can give me would be greatly appreciated. I have been working at this almost non-stop and have no answers. I am very new to Linux.

Thanks,

PAB

I had the same problem. I tried the install on a duplicate machine and I had no luck because of a cdrom problem. But on the original machine, I upgraded the memory from 128 to 256 and BINGO!!

I believe now that this problem is incurred due to insufficent memory. I hope this will help you.
