redhat 8.0 instalation problem
 

So i'm probably the newbiest of the newbies.... here is the problem i'm having.
I'm triing to instal redhat 8.0 on a new drive.
Everything goes quite well. The instalation program starts, I partition and format the drive etc etc. then the installation program has all the iformation it needs and starts its bussiness. At some point it spits out the first CD and asks for the second CD. I put it in and quite soon after it i get an error message saing that the" /mnt/sysimage/var/tmp/xfree86-xauth-4.2.0-72.1386.rpm " file can't beopend or isn't there.
Then i am kickedout of the installation program and am forced to start all over again. After quite a few times triing and much time i am at a loss.
Does anybody know what to do about this???
The CD did pass the test at the beginning of the program so it should fine.

This is kinda half-baked solution but IIRC it's the fastest.
Try installing without adding apps depending on X (thats X11 or XFree86) Gnome or KDE and without X, Gnome and KDE itself.
This way you at least (hopeully) can install a working system, and build it up from there.
Note you can switch during the install process to other consoles with CTRL+ALT+F<number 1 to 6) and back. The other consoles (likely 2, 3 or 4) will show diagnostic info during the install. *Maybe* it can provide some more clues.

CD might be defective.. unlikely, though possible.

Either that or a funky hardware conflict / scratched cd :)

thats all i can think of. tho those ideas are pretty blunt...

Someone had the same problem a few weeks ago and that came from the cd drive, he just try with another one and the installation went fine.
And a friend of mine had the same problem with quake3 cd (a file was missing) and he tried with another cd drive and that worked.
I don't say it can solve your problem but it seems quite similar and thus it worth a try :)

So i tried to install without X genome KDE but that did not work either. I'll reburn the CD today just incase. I have to see what i can do about the CD player.
Maybe i can disconnect everything except for the hard drive and the CD player and see if that will work.
