RedHat 8.0 Help Plz

Ok i installed Red Hat 8 fine, I installed it with Windows-X i think thats what it was callled. Someone said thats all I would need not KDE or GNOME. Anyways when i get into the Red Hat login I login as root and it all works fine, but I then get a text box like:

[ root@localhost root]#

what am I suppose to type to get it to go into a standard OS GUI ?

First is create yourself a regular user as logged in as root is a bad idea.

man adduser ( to create another user )
passwd <newuser> ( to change password )

After you've created a user, type exit or logout to logout as root and then login as your new user.

And now at the prompt, simply type startx and if it was configured properly during installation.. that should get you into the GUI.

Sounds like you're stuck in a console. And it sounds like X is indeed up and running on the system. Try issuing the command:

ps -ef | grep X

and see what it returns. I'd guess that there are 4-5 lines of `stuff' returned. If so, try pressing:

Ctrl-Alt-F7

What does that do on your system?
