Redhat 7.3 Install
 

I'm trying to install RH 7.3.

Just before installing the packages I get a kernel panic :

Kernel was unable to re-read partition table on /tmp/hd(x)

I get the same error for al 3 of my hd.
This is my setup:

DISC 1 : Seagate Barracuda 4 40GB
PRIMARY : WINDOWS98SE
EXTENDED: WINDOWSXP and MORE DRIVES

DRIVE 2 : IBM Deskstar 60GB
Linux 40GB and Swap 1GB

DRIVE 3 : IBM Desktar 20GB (connected via RAID controller)
PRIMARY FAT32 20GB Drive

Does anyone have a clue what the problem could be ??
I already tried emptying al my hd and starting from scratch, still the same prob, could it be a bios setting i overlooked ?

i've been having the same problem and have been following two threads dealing with similar problems from a different board. i don't know if it applies to you but it may be worth a look.

well i'm not sure but try at least to check your memory
crappy memory tends to crashes even during install
use the memtest86 program (www.memtest86.com)
it boots of a single floppy

why not try and re-download the iso's, they may be corrupted. my redhat 7.3 install went flawlessly from the gitgo, and all subsequent times thereafter.

Not sure if this will help since it may also give you a kernel panic but to check to see if your media is corrupt, type "linux mediacheck" where you would normally hit ENTER (at the boot prompt).

I'm not sure if I can duplicate my prior errors to be sure but I had a super smooth install (finally) using Redhat 7.2. I'm pretty sure it was the memory ( thanks www.memtest86.com). In addition, I unplugged my CR burner, and USB Sanddisk (but I doubt that was the problem) The memtest86 generated a lot of errors on my two (apparently mismatched 128 K RAM). I put in some new Viking Ram and voila, install. The install was complicated slightly by failing to recognize the ethernet cards. I rebooted and swapped out the netgear FA311 NIC. Redhat found the DFE-530TX. I have a DSL and had to refer to my Redhat Unleashed to do a command line ifconfig. I still haven't gotten the FA311 to be recognized (but that's fodder for a another thread if I can't do it myself). Thanks to everyone for their helpful advice.
