red hat update; driver fault on lenovo laptop

hi all.

1. may I update rhel 5.4 kernel with centos kernel??
or rhel kernels are different??

2. I've enabled fingerprint reader on fedora 13, but nothing more was working. on reboot I was stopped at login splash with no way to login.
so, how can I dismount the new defective driver (or module?).
again, I tried stopping X server to restart it and launch
"gnome-session --failsafe" to disable reader via its gui utility, but X server restarted automatically on tty7.

save our souls.
thank you.

1. The kernels are different, but you might get away with it. YMMV.

2. Enabled fingerprinting and locked yourself out? Back to the install cd, Ctrl_Alt_F2 and disable it again.
