Red hat problem

Hi all. Red hat newb here with a problem that I will describe. I installed RH9 and it was great. Nice and speedy. After a few days apps started to open quite slow. 20-30 seconds for a terminal window to open. If I unplugged my cable connection, then rebooted it was fast again. Doesn't seem to make sense. Firewall is running.

XP2000+ cpu
Asus a7a 266 mobo
256 DDR

Any input is helpful. Thanks all.

I have the same problem before using different kinds of connections. I found that if I install RH and left my hostname default (localhost.localdomain) everything worked perfect.

If I changed my hostname, it had the problem you are having. If I changed it back to localhost.localdomain, it still didn't work properly.

I'm at a loss of what has been happening. It must be something to do with the hostname.

Good luck though.
