Red Hat : My list of running applications has disappeared off the bottom of the scree

I'm new to Linux, but old to Unix. Far too old. So old I can't remember most of it. .. anyway, all of a sudden, when I use VNC to connect to our server, I no longer have a list of applications running along the bottom of the screen.

Any new applications that I minimise disappear off to the far right somewhere. How do I reinstate it?

Sorry if it's relatively stupid.

I am a :newbie: after all

Right click on the Panel (taskbar), select 'Add to Panel'. You'll get a list of options of what to add. Near the bottom, select Window List or Window Selector, depending on the format you like.

I'm not sure if I understand exacly what you mean, but if you are talking about the win-like startmenu some gui's have you could try reinstalling the gui or read up on your gui and find out what app the startmenu is and just reinstall that.

Do the menu come back when you restart X before you start the VNC whatever that is? If so a reinstall of the menu-app probably won't do it.
