Red Hat Depencies :o(
Hi All,

Is there anyway to use rpm like Gentoo's portage system?

Everytime I try and install a package it needs another depency and then the dependency needs a dependency till I give up!

apt-get and synaptic are the tools you are looking for:

The page is not closed, it's just a protest against software patents by the way :).

Good luck!

i am just assuming you are using redhat 9, so here is the link for the apt-get rpm file ..
apt takes care of the dependancies when you are installing something so for example if you wanted to install mplayer you would type ::
apt-get install mplayer
and this command will install mplayer plus all its dependancies, and if you are a GUI kinda person, then you can start off by typing ::
apt-get install synaptic
and you will get a graphical frontend for apt where you can select what you want to install from a list, if you didn't want to type...
oh, and you just type synaptic at a prompt to open it after it is installed, or you can just make a shortcut to it...
