Red Hat Book not enough informatiom
Hi All!

I can do a pretty good song and a dance when it comes too windows 98SE but I have to left feet when it comes to Linux... I installed the program on a second hard drive yesterday so I can play... And the book that I got with the disk doen't help to much cause I think I did everything in the book to connect to the internet but I don't know how to start the modem talking.. I did the internet wizard thing and it detected the modem and I activated it... from there the book leaves you hanging.... So do any of you know of any Good web sites that I can read...

I also download a file called 3ComMdm-1.0-1.i386.rpm from the modem support site and it fizzled out on me.. I don't know how to tell if it really did any thing???????

I just need some plain help on installing and connecting to the net...

it is a usr5610b modem and it is suppose to be compatable with linux...

another thing is it suppose to list it in device window....

questions questions ????????

Thank Mac!

P.S. I have searched the net and nothing that I am finding for file names to look are not anywhere to be found....

I'M lost and confused javascript:smilie('')

If the modem was detected, you can try to connect. Run 'kppp' enter all data (telephone number etc) and try to connect.

The file 3ComMdm-1.0-1.i386.rpm can be installed when you open a terminal, type 'su', then your root password (when asked). Then run
rpm -i 3ComMdm-1.0-1.i386.rpm
(you should be in the directory the files's in). It looks it's a script, so you can try '3ComMdm' and see what happens. But if kppp works, you don't need the file.

LOL I guess linux is as touchy as windows because I had already tried a few things before your post of running kppp... I wiped the slate clean and reinstalled linix and selected custom install then I selected most of the stuff to install except for the server stuff cause I'm not into that part yet....

Now I'm a happy camper cause I'm on the net using linux to answer you post.... Why didn't I find a easy answer on the net like yours.. The rest where complicated and not needed and the only thing they did was screw my setting up.... it was a as simple answer "kppp" javascript:smilie(':D')
