Hi,
You will have to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and adjust the settings according to your monitor manual.
NOTE: the XF86Config-4 file is for the X-Server version 4+, If you are using the classic X-Server (version 3), you will have to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config (without '-4'). If you just have the latter one, just edit that one, because if X-Server 4 doesn't find the '-4' Version, it will use the other file.
What to edit? Here you go...
You will find a couple of lines just like these:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "Daewoo 710B"
HorizSync 30.0 - 69.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 160.0
EndSection
it is not necessary to edit the lines Identifier, VendorName and ModelName, but you will have to adjust HorizSync and VertRefresh.
Of course there are tools for that purpose, but they also can mess things up, therefore it might come in handy to edit the file directly.
cheers,
A08

redhat-config-xf86 won't work in text mode as far as i know...
Nakkaya,
You are right with the filename, but as I wrote in my last post, the official filename is XF86Config-4 and the modern version will fallback to the old filename if it doesn't find the new one...
...and of course there are tools to acomplish the configuration, but one of the last tools to use is 'redhat-config-xf86', because it won't run in text mode as far as i can see (correct me if I am wrong) and if you read the original problem, he cannot go in graphical mode...
...you are better of to adjust that tiny values with the values from your monitor manual instead of risking to destroy the whole configuration with a tool - remember thats what Windows is famous for
cheers,
Chris

Does redhat-config-xf86 work in text mode?
I am not really convinced it will work, because he said he cannot see anything, so he seems to have trouble using X-Server and therefore graphical tools won't help him unless redhat-config-xf86 works also without X-Server - does it?
Why don't we just wait until he comes back with feedback
Chris

In RH there is no [/b]/etc/X11/XF86Config-4[/b] RH just sets up /etc/X11/XF86Config. If you want you can run redhat-config-xfree86 this uses the Frame buffer which should work on all PCs, this will give you choices on video card, monitor and resolution.
Let us know if this works

What driver are you using for your Video Card ?
Maybe try choosing generic vesa and see if you can then get the resolution you want, it could be the driver you are using that is causing the problems. Plus try it with 16 bit color at first and see what happens.
Did you find your proper refresh rates?
