Red Hat 9 Start up Sequence...

Hi all,

This is probably a stupid question, but to those who are familiar with me in this forum, they know this isn't the first, lol.

Ok, when I first installed Red Hat 9, of course it asked me to set up the root account, so on and so forth. Then after, it prompted me to set up a user account. It's been a while, so I don't quite remember the sequence. Anyway, I set up the user account, which is my main account now.

So anyway, when I log into my account, im presented with a splash screen telling me what KDE is loading before my desktop comes up. Well, when I log into root, it shows a few more things , like, 3 or 4 , loading. You know what im talking about?

Well, I created a new account, just a regular account, and it seems to load this same stuff at startup that the root account loads.

This isn't really a problem I am having, just more a question. Did I do something wrong when I created the new user account? Or perhaps when I created mine upon installation? And where exactly do I go to "tell" Linux (or KDE, whichever one is responsible) which things to load and not to load up login?

Just wondering

Thanks

Bill

of course, you can select which GUI mode you need, whether a Gnome or KDE or some thing like that. you can select main menu> system tools >more system tools > desktop switching tool . from the pop menu you can select which ever you want.

Hi, green4u,

Actually, what I'm talking about is that little screen that comes up telling you what KDE is loading. If I remember correctly, it says something like:

"Loading system services..."

then

"Loading system peripherals..."

and then I think

"Loading system devices... (or something like that)"

then a few more and finally it says

"KDE is up and running"

It's that little screen that comes up once a user logs in telling them what programs and services KDE is loading before it starts. It's progress is represented by a little icon that appears as each thing is loaded. Then the screen dissapears and then you're at your desktop.

Each of my accounts starts this way, but my root account and this new account I created load a couple more things than my default account. Where would I go to view and/or modify what services load upon login for each user?

I hope I'm explaining this right

Thanks,

Bill

ok, I am an IDIOT...

I just realized that my root account and the test account that I created were both using the Gnome desktop enviroment, while my personal account was set up to use KDE. Of course the startup sequence was different.

I feel retarded.

Thanks for your help, tho, I appriciated it Try not to laugh too hard, lol.
