Red Hat 9 Netscape 7.02 java plug ins
I've installed Red Hat 9, downloaded and installed Netscarpe 7.02 and the java plug ins. I followed ( i believe) all the install instructions but cannot get the plug ins to work. It shows thed plug ins are installed but when i acces a page with java, Netscape just shuts down...any ideas.
Thanks

Which version have you installed?
I installed Java version 1.4.2 from java.sun.com/j2se/downloads.html (JRE)
To install Java in Netscape first you have to install the plugin the normal way, i.e. rpm --install your_java_plugin and after that, you do a symbolic link from the java file INSIDE the ns610-gcc32 directory to ~/.mozilla/plugins file.
So ~/.mozilla/plugins will actually point to the real java file.
I think your problem maybe:
(1) You either have not used a symbolic link but copied the plugin to the ~/.mozilla/plugins
OR
(2) You did the symbolic link from the ns610 directory not the ns610-gcc32.
Hope it helps.

Hi,
My environment is Netscape 7.02/SuSe Linux SLES7, here's how I solved the same problem:
$ cd ~<linux_user_home>/.mozilla
$ ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_01/plugin/i386/ns610/ plugins
regards.

I tried that to no avail. I abandoned Netscape and just use Mozilla. I made the symbolic link in the appropriate mozilla directory and walla!
