Red Hat 9 being unstable

I'm getting real frustrated with my linux box (for many reasons). The biggest one is it's crashing all the time. It's been locking up for seemingly no reason. I just logged in and I'm looking at the start screen. It's locked up while loading "Red Hat Network Monitor". Just before this, I was loading some programs, and the hourglass would appear, and as soon as it loaded, the program closed. Tried this with many different programs, system tools, the terminal... nothing started... then it locked up again.

I can't even do any real troubleshooting because I can only open a couple programs if I'm lucky, before it starts acting up. any ideas what might be causeing this? or what might fix this?

My RH9 instability problems were with bad RAM. Check out the memtest86 program to see if thats the case for you.
