Question Red Hat 9 & Video Problems

I'm totally new to Linux - Just attempted to install Red Hat 9 for the very first time and it went good so far.

The anaconda system installer had my video card set as a Trio S64 or something - I changed it to NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX 64MB - after the reboot, the system would not go into X Windows and would only give me the command line. It gave me an error message of ' no screens available'

Now this is my question: How can I change it back to the default S3 Trio option in the command line so that I can log in through the GUI?

Thanks

I did it through the GUI

I reinstalled it again, this time leaving the defaults and now I still can't see anything - it doesn't even take me to the command line. All I see is some graphic garbage on the screen.

Didn't have this much trouble with installing mandrake. How can I get the driver installed through command line?

thanks

Ok, with the command setup it would be possible to reconfigure X, (checked yesterday) The only solution I know for your problem is to start with a cd (I use Virtual Linux to edit system files and to boot from cd has even X on it) Red hat also can boot into console with the first cd to edit files. There you can use the command mount to mount the appropriate devices, and edit the inittab file i think to do not start X (mm difficult) I would do an upgrade/re-install with the cd's if I were you.

so for example:

mkdir /mnt/mycrash
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/mycrash (here you can specify device type if necess)
then
look for inittab or initab (not sure)
use vi
write with wq,
if read only use chmod

regards,
