Red Hat 7.3
Hello all. I just installed Redhat 7.3 on my laptop. I went with the defaults and installed KDE, Gnome and development tools. I am aware that the kernal is probably old and would like to upgrade the kernal.
I want to advoid the RHN automatic updates because I don't really want to install with RPM's. So, the question is where do I go get the latest version of the kernal with installation instructions. Is anyone aware of any other package I should upgrade that came stock with Redhat 7.3. I am interested in upgrading the development stuff--gcc, gdb, perl, etc. as that is what I will be using the most. I will be mainly using Linux to learn how to program. |
You can download the latest kernel from www.kernel.org, many things from ftp.gnu.org. Thy have many mirrors, so browse their mirror lists and find the one closest to you.
