Red Hat 7.2 external scsi raid unable to mount
Hello all and thank you for a nice website. I have been reading it for 2-3 years and found plenty help. No I have a small issue I cant find info on. Will try to explain everything as well as I can :)
I have a sym53c895 scsi card with external and internal connectors. I have 2 x 18gig drives on the internal connectors and a dedicaed raid on the external cable connector. I rev up the old raid and wait for a ready. I do the next commands. /sbin/fdisk /dev/sdc I have also tryed with /dev/sdc1 but that does not work. Only /dev/sdc will change the ID System to whatever I select. I will not be able to help you with that one --- but allow me to welcome you to LQ, and just tell you that the codes you copy-pasted from the terminal will look nice, just as they look in the terminal if you paste them in between

Just a thought - try erasing the disk again (deleting the partition) and recreating it
Between doing this make sure you write the changes (exiting fdisk using w) and look if you dont get msg you need to reboot. If you have data on the disk you could verify the partition table(fdisk again) and run a check on the filesystem (fsck /dev/sdc1) - if this starts finding errors you might have lost your data but you can try and go ahead anyway Oh and btw - you can only mount partitions - not disks so its mount .. /dev/sdc1 and not mount .. /dev/sdc |

ok - if you have recreated the partition mount it like this:
mount -t ext3 /dev/sdc1 /mount/yourmountpoint check dmesg / sys log for errors also see what fsck says if you try this command : fsck /dev/sdc1 |

the steps to integrate a new disk requires to setup a filesystem after partitioning the disk. So this means you require to do a Code:
mkfs -t ext3 /dev/sdc1Code:
mount -t ext3 /dev/sdc1 /somewhere |
