PLEASE HELP ME!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH~~ i lost all my shame and dignity ..help!
Errr, you chose a bad combination, Being a compaq which has almost everything built it and having an AGP card built in. Redhat doesn't necessarily like AGP cards, it may be picky about this.
However, did you install your redhat version just now??, or what are you trying to do?, did you boot from cd and let the installation load?, has it been like this always? did it just happen now?, what's going on, more info plz.
I installed it and the Red hat graphical install loaded just fine and it even detected the raedeon card, however it did not detect it as agp... the one that i have is the Ati Raedeon M6-p 4x AGP with 8mb vid memory...everything else runs like a dream except for that one thing. i would send the file to the xfree86 thing or i would post it up here but i have no way of connecting to the net with this thing.. please help..
about your questions
: yes i let it boot from the CD, i installed it a couple of days ago and have been looking for help ever since, yes it has always been like this, i have never ever got into the Xwindows system and when it boots up it always boots up in text mode, except for GRUB which looks graphical. but i have always had this problem any help on this would be appreciated.
Does anyone think that a different distro of Linux will work...or is it the xfree86 drivesrs and if sooo how the hell am i gonna throw them on a CD...... Anyone know if it is possible to connect via dialup with out a GUI..... i can pull that off but i doubt that will do me any good. WEll i hope you guys slept on my problems and have any solutions maybe anyone else with this can come forward.i i"m sorry for bumping it up..... But i really want this to work.... Oh welll.... Her goes nothing
Run xf86config and select the proper settings for your video card and monitor settings... If it installed via the Anaconda, (Red Hat graphical installer), there shouldn't be a problem with your video card, your config is just off a bit. You could also run Xconfigurator, or xf86cfg if those are installed, as they are a bit easier than xf86config to use.
THe auto config did not pick it up and it kept gettign PCI mem errors my friend let me borrow the latest distro of Mandrake and it worked like a dream it runs beautiful i love it!!! .. hahahahah all i gotta do now is to configure my modem so i can dialup to the internet hahahahah..... As the world turns....weird thing is that when i run kppp it runs fine...but it doesn't seem to be dialing up and out...maybe it's because it's set to /dev/ttyS0 Hmmm i dunno oh well...on with the hunt..
I have the sme problem, but with a Compaq Presario 1700 it seem it is a Pre-sorry-o, but i will run the two commands listed above (Xconfigurator, or xf86cfg). if that doesn't work i have an old copy of Corel Linux.I'll keep you posted thanks for the help.
Yeah agreeing with a previous poster since Anaconda kicked in the nice lil Gui then it's something in the settings...but luckily mandrake solved it...noe if only i can get armagetron to run decently and not all laggy and choppy.
did you run xf86config and look in the card database for your card? If it wasn't there then there's no doubt that it won't work, but if it's there you should give that a try. (when xf86config asks you if you want to look at the database, press y, then enter to scroll through the list, when you find your EXACT card simply type in the number ahead of the card name)
yeah i know the exact card wasn't there but if the installation was nice and graphical it had to have autodetected something, but in the autosearch it just dropped me the generic one..However mandrake found it perfectly...well enough for me to run xwindows
...weird huh?
