Cool Recovering SQL data

I reinstalled ubuntu linux and lost some mySQL database files that were located in the /var/lib/mysql/ folder. I need to recover them ASAP. How do i go about it. Is it possible to recover .frm, .myb files using scalpel.

Is there an alternate software I could use?

How did you go about your re-install? Give detailed steps e.g., changed
partitioning, formated drive, simply overwrote, ... ?

Cheers,
Tink
