Recovering a deleted file in Mepis?

I'm certainly a noob, trying out Kubuntu, Suse and now Mepis. Tried installing Xephem (astro) and lost it while trying get a symlink working in Mepis. Might have been due to renaming. If it was deleted, how can I undelete? Thx! I think like a M$ Windows 7 user.
