Recovering

I am setting up a linux machine just to back things up and have as a server. The idea is being I can romotely use this machine. I don't want to have a keyboard, mouse, or monitor. I haven't done this before, but I am sure using SSH, this shouldn't be too hard.

My worry is the following... The only time I have had a problem with Linux, is when the power went off and my system got corrupt. I was planning on making an image of the hard drive (with the boot and main files, no data) and placing it either a CD or the other hard drive. Then having a floppy that when put in during the booting of the comp, it would wipe out everything and copy the image over.

How easily can this be done? If it can be done at all? Maybe there is an easier way I haven't thought of yet. Thanks for the input.

Have a look at partimage, it has network support.
