recover lost ntfs partition in ubuntu

hi ,
I have a laptop with 300GB hard disk divides as follows
Code:

Result from gparted using live cd
partition    SIZE    LABEL
/dev/sda1 300MB system
/dev/sda2 32GB  windows7
unallocated 250GB <to-be-rescued>
/dev/sda3 15GB    HP_recovery
unallocated 6MB

What should I use to recover lost partition ?
I can make live bootable USB of any distro you advise to boot my laptop.
Actually that partition has pictures of my dear ones.
Please help.
Let me know if any other information is needed.
Thank You.

How did you loose that partition? Is it simple deleted, do you have overwritten it accidentally?

actually I had just windows 7 on laptop.
When I turned on laptop , I got message 'bootloader corrupted'
When I chainloaded via grubmenu of USB then I still get dropped to same message.
Then I ran gparted from live USB & saw the filesystem structure mentioned above.
Is there any tool which can guess the missing partition so that it can be mounted ?

You can try to use Testdisk to mount the lost partition. If that is not successful you can use Photorec (part of the Testdisk package) to scan for pictures in the free space.

Somehow the 300GB partition had resized to 32 GB causing all this.

I used photorec from live CD distro to recover files after testdisk could not find original partition.
thanks TobiSGD.
