Recording TV

I have a dual CPU intel 2GHZ 2GB of ram all of this is not enough to record tv, it absolutely drains the PC, but using windows XP is not a problem.

Watching tv is okay, it is only when you record?

I am using a WinTV-HVR-1300-MCE capture card, Ubuntu 9.10

Thanks EAI

What program are you using for the recording? Have you set that program to use the hardware mpeg2 decoder? If you don't setup the recording profile to use the mpeg2 decoder then it will do software decoding which basically means your CPU will do all the video decoding (which will bring your machine to a screeching halt).
