Recording streaming audio with Audacity in Mint

I am struggling to find an answer to this, I am trying to record an audio stream from youtube but it not only records the stream but also from my built in microphone. I have found stuff about pauvcontrol which was not installed by default so I installed it but I can't find any settings that turn off my mic. I know it's a system setting problem & not Audacity because I tried using Ocenaudio & that did the same thing.
Can anyone give me simple step by step instructions on how to achieve this please.
In Windows it's a case of enabling stereo mix & setting it as default which then automatically turns off the mic, I'm sure there must be something similar in Mint but I'm at a loss as to how.
Thank you.

hi there
Simple as can be...open the sound settings (right top, the speaker if I'm correct) and select settings, tab to the "input devices" and disable the mike...
Of course...there may be an easier way: strip the video for the sound (ffmpeg comes to mind)...

The easiest way is to download the video with a firefox add-on like this one:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...ash-and-video/

And then use vlc to extract the audio:

http://www.ghacks.net/2011/07/15/how...-media-player/

If you are having trouble downloading the video, then you will have to use audacity to record the sound card output using pulse audio:

http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man..._on_linux.html

You can disable the microphone in pauvcontrol by going to the "Input" tab; in the "Show" drop down menu on the bottom, select "All Input Devices"; on the microphone section, click on the little speaker with the red "X", next to it to mute the mike and you can adjust the volume on the "Monitor of Built-in Audio Analog Stereo" section by moving the sliders for "Front Left" and "Front Right". They are set at 100%(0dB) by default.
