Recording mic under RH9 gnome

I've got RedHat 9.0 and I'm using gnome.

I can hear something in the speakers if i shout into the microphone, but nothing records when i try plain old gnome-sound-recorder

I've played around with the mixer settings and everything seems to happen as expected, it's just the actual recording that doesn't work. I messed around with Igain as well (as i read in another thread) and nothing happens.

Anyone know what might be wrong?
