recompiled kernel not in use

i just recompiled kernel but i think it is still the old one.
because when i make menuconfig i disabled the usb-uhci module
in the RH 9 i am looking at it is still showing me usb-uhci is running
is that all i have to do is go to the src dir and make menuconfig
make dep && make bzImage && make modules && make modules_install && make install

then reboot

go over to this page here, and you'll see exactly what to do ..
you never said what kernel you tried to recompile, but if it is 2.6 then some of them steps you mentioned, are not needed anymore, and the howto is updated with what is now the way...if it is a version < 2.6 then basically what you said (other than the couple mistakes you made) is almost correct, but again, go to that link and you'll see a list of complete steps..
