Hello,

I don't have anything specific to ask at the moment but I wanted to know where the best place to go to learn more would be. Ideally I want to have a deep understanding of how Linux works from the ground up. Most of what I seem to find are simple "How To's" and the like. If anyone knows of a good book or website (preferably in plain language) please tell me.

Thank-you for reading

Oh and what is a "flame war?"

1. here's a good one: http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html.gz . If you've got an MS background you may find this a (quick) interesting read http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm

2. flame war : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame_war

One more thing...

I am new to the whole forum thing. Is there a protocol for thanking people? Something like an ebay rating?

There's a "thumbs up" graphic next to the quote button underneath each person's reply - that "thanks" them, essentially.
