Recomendations for first time user.

Totally new to Linux, but I'm considering switching, however I'm uncertain as to what's best for me.

I mostly use my computer for multitrack music recording/production, and so was wondering if there's software that I can use for that, and also how I would find out if my soundcard (m-audio delta 4-4) would be compatable?

I am also going to be shareing broadband with computers running windows, wondering if this would be a problem?

Essentially I require a solid system, as I've had problems with windows crashing while I'm recording. I've not got alot of codeing experience, but I'm quite willing to learn more, that's part of why I want to switch.

I'll also need media playing software for mp3's,
word processing software,
internet browser,

Wondering if people had recomendations of which distributions, and programs to go with?

Thanks alot,

I suggest you start with DeMuDi (Debian-based) or ReMuDi (RedHat-based).
They are both released by The Agnula project
...completely devoted to professional and consumer audio applications and multimedia development...
