REALLY newbie question(simple to respond...)
sorry for the stupid question, but i'd like to know where to install apps. i know i can install them almost everywhere, but i'd like them to be all in one place...is that usr/share? or usr/share/apps?
please, let me now, i'm about to tar/install firebird... thanx |
If you are using mandrake, just download the RPM and it will install in the correct directory
i know that, what i don't know is what "current" directory is The right directory for programs? i don't won't to end installing apps to /boot dir...
in mandrake the apps from RPM are installed in /usr and the apps installed from source are installed in the /usr/local directory if thats what you wanted to know
thanx
i'm going to install firebird in usr/share dir (that should do it) |
are you installing Firebird from source
i'm not sure - i've downloaded MozillaFirebird-0.6.1-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz
thats installing from source. If you are new to linux I recomend you install an RPM
