Real NEWBIE question!

OK all - HELP, PLEASE!

Running RH9. installed firebirdsql from the file

FirebirdCS-1.5.0.3780-RC6.i686.rpm

I ran the RPM file by double-clicking, and it went through all the checks for dependencies, and seemed to go fine. However - now I can't start the program! Where is it? I found the directory
/usr/local/firebird - but no files I can run, or no files to make or install.

What next?

I just want a SIMPLE database to build a solution for a friend, and hoped FIrebird would be enough like MS Access to let me start.

Any ideas for this real
:newbie:
Thanx!

Go to a term and type in

Code:

whereis firebird
It will tell you where it is then you can run it. You may want to just type in firebird and see if it runs.

I don't run Redhat but it should add a entry into the menu. You may want to try looking in Networking and WWW.

Hope that helps

In a terminal try typing:

./thunderbird

rberry88

right click in kde (open spot on desk to or go to kmenu and look for the run command)use the run command type in the program you want to use exp ./programname,//////////////////////////////////////////////////// the same should work for gnome/ if not try going into su mode in a console and type./programname(you may have installed it as root)

OK - I went into the directories in the console as su and changed all ownership to myself, and the attributes to +rwx (using chmod). That still didn't seem to work. I tried the ./firebird command, the ./firebird.conf command - still nothing. Where did things go? I even tried double clicking on the other example icons, and no help. It's frustrating. Any firebird users out there?

Or, are any of you using a simple database on RH9? How can I install it?

Thanks!
Rita
