Question Real newbie - Network install

Ok, first off all I'm a real newbie in Linux... I came as far as installing Slackware 9.0 but it didn't recon my NIC....

After browsing this forum (for a few hours) I found out that I own a NE2000 Compatible ISA NIC I/O port = 300H and IRQ = 3...

Now is my question what kind of commands do I need to enter so I can use my NIC... I tried modprobe ne no errors and it shows up in the list with lsmod....

But if one of you could be so kind to tell me wath to do (step-by-step) to install this driver I would be very happy!

Grtz,

Bloged

Ok all ya have to do now is bring up the network device:

$ ifup eth0

Or if it's not configured crack open /etc/network/interfaces (at least in debian...)

and add:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Then do the ifup stuff.

Sorry, real n00b when it comes to Linux....

But I enter:
1. modprobe ne io=0x300
isapnp: Scanning for PnP cards....
isapnp: No Plug & Play device found

NE*000 ethercard probe at 0x300: 00 50 4e 04 e9 b2
eth0: NE2000 found at 0x300, using IRQ 3

But then ifup isn't a command?!???

Crack open????

Thnx in advance,

Grtz,

Next step?

Ok I thinkt I am one step further....

As mentioned above I do:
modprobe ne io=0x300
Card is found and installed

Then i want to use DHCP to give an IP address to the NIC (given by my router)....

I used:
dhcpcd eth0
Nothing happes
After: ifconfig no eth0 in list!

When I use:
[b]ifconfig eth0 10.0.0.165[b]
Then with ifconfig my eth0 shows up.....

But after that I'm still not getting any results with a ping!

HELP

Thnx in advance,

Grtz,
