Reading/Writing MS Outlook Mail Files

Having dabbled with Linux for some time, I'd now like to move over to using it full-time. I've set up a openSuse 10.2 system which meets my needs and would now like to set up an email facility such that I am able to access my earlier mail held in a .PST file created by MS Outlook 2003. Which email package would you suggest I should use? If I can't access and use the .PST file "as-is" is there a means by which I can extract the mail from the .PST file and convert it into the Linux email program's format (and vice versa)?

Hope you can help!

Install thunderbird for Windows, one of the options is to import email from Outlook. Then copy the converted thunderbird email directories to where ever your normal user account has thunderbird's email directory structure is or to a common location both can share. Then quit using Outlook for email.

Thanks Lenad, this has worked perfectly. It may take me some while to configure and adapt to Thunderbird, but all my mails are there and organised in the same way. Many thanks indeed for your suggestion.
