Re-setting SLES 10 SP2 server password without boot/CD

Hello All,

Is there any way to recover/reset root password for system running SLES 10 SP2?

Unfortunately i can't reboot/insert CD to recover (as its in some other place ) - Only hope i have is , "ssh" enabled on this for my account and i am able to login.

Any suggestions to reset/recover root password are greatly helpful.

Thanks.

No.

Either go to the place and reboot into single user mode, or call someone up at the datacenter and have them do it for you.

As above, unless your personal acct has sudo access to root.
Also, passwds in Linux are hashed, not encrypted, so its effectively a one-way process. This means you'll have to set a new root passwd, its not generally possible to recover a passwd without some serious effort.

oh there is no way chance to change the root password from the place where i wish to login. .
Anyways Thanks all for the reply. .
