re-installing xp pro over linux mint
 

have installed linux mint on my computer...sort of error!:D
i like it but nothing seems to work properly.
cannot install any of the programmes i had on xp pro.

to name a few....photoshop, itunes, ejay, camera cd's
On top of that i have no sound.
Have tried to use software manager etc...but get a little box coming up telling me 'your mouse grab'??

thing is can i re-install xp pro over linux mint?
any suggestion would be gratefully received.

And welcome to LQ!
No, you wouldn't; not w/o some effort and some extra software
that emulates/maps windows function calls to Linux ones, namely
wine (or crossOver office). And even then it's not guaranteed
that ALL of them would work.

You could conceivably try to find Linux alternatives to the
programs you're after.

What led you to believe that you could just use Windows applications
under Linux?

Last time I tried re-installing windows over Linux I had to re-format the drive to something windows would recognize like fat32. It has been awhile since I've wanted to do that though...

first, i just sort of assumed that things like photoshop etc would install ok. after all linux has been around for years and is not going away so why dont these companies adapt their software...or am i being too simplistic.
i meant to partition then install linux originally. but now i guess i will have to reinstall xp pro...after formatting, then install linux they way i intended in the first place, because i want to learn how to use it properly.
And i still cant open 'parcel manager'
anyway, i shall later reinstall xp then try mint again unless anyone has a better idea.................my partners idea is for me to just switch it off and watch a video...haha

Well you cant just install the windows softwares on linux. Though linux has been around for years the package meant for windows has different format than linux and hence it cant be installed. You will need the original software manufacturer to package it for linux as well to install it on Mint or any other linux distribution.
For the time being, if you are interested in learning linux, get hold of Ubuntu media and try it as a live distro.
You would not be required to install it to hard drive. It will run off the optical media directly.
Once you use it for some time you will know that xp is more suitable for watching videos and listening to songs and nothing much good can be done using it.

Linux is powerful enough to run windows app .. READ IT
 

Best way to run windows app is using Virtualization.
Download Virtualbox at here http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads.
for running windows favourite games you like most use cadega.
Download the latest version of cadega from here -- http://www.transgaming.com/
it would be a 30 day evolution copy , download its crack from here ---www.piratesbay.com .
To run DOS based application , dosbox and dosemu are two my favourite choices.
