re-install RHN & up2date software

Hi Folks...

I am quite new to Linux and need some advice. I was having much trouble getting the up2date application running properly on a copy of RHEL I received from a training class. It has gone from bad to worse so I am wondering if it is possible to remove or force a complete reinstall of the up2date files.

I tried pulling the up2date rpm off of my CD & ran rpm <package.blah.blah> --force & even tried the "--replacepkgs" switch as well but got a message saying that on installs, upadates, etc., can be forced.

If I try to run up2date from the CLI I get "No rhnuuid config option found in /etc/sysconfig/rhn/up2date-uuid." back as an error.

thoughts? suggestions? condolences? All are welcome.

I know this probably isn't useful but I started using linux when fdora core 3 was still unstable. since then I have moved on to fedora core 4. not once have I had useful function from up2date. In my opinion it isn't as useful as yum anyway. It suggest "yum update" from the command line as an alternative, but in gerneral the golden rule, "if it ain't broke don't fix it" holds true. By all means periodically update your entire system but generally just the packages you realy need to update using yum.
