rdesktop server - how to set up?

I want to manage Linux machine from another Linux machine with rdesktop. And I can't find how to set up a rdesktop server on Linux (Arch). Please help who knows.

rdesktop is for connecting to windows terminal servers, you don't connect to linux servers with it, hence no guides about it. A suitable equivalent would be something like nx from nomachine.org, who's client also supports windows. People will mention VNC, but VNC is rubbish.

Xrdp is probably what you are looking for.

VNC is ok on a local lan, if you understand how to set it up. But does eat a lot of bandwidth(relative).

Maybe "xrdp" can work as a server for rdesktop?

Update: yeah, I didn't see your post... Thanks, I will look at xrdp.

Why? Why would you want this? Xrdp is, last time I looked, an alpha attempt at a solution to a problem that doesn't exist, and was very incomplete, and abandoned. If you're doing linux to linux desktop access then using birth a reserve engineered client AND server is just bizarre. If you want to go anywhere near msrdp then at least one part of the equation should relate to microsoft!

I want someting like Radmin. What can it be?

acid_kewpie 12-12-2010 09:00 AM

Well I've no idea what radmin does that's so sexy, and don't really feel like reading up on it to find out. The best linux X desktop remote access solution i've used is, as above, nx. It's very good, and free for 2 concurrent users.

If your on a low latency LAN, ssh and X11 forwarding is easy to setup and is available on most default installations, you just have to enable it in /etc/ssh/sshd_config
