.rar archive help

I do a good amount of cross platforming between my linux server, Mandrake 10.01 desktop, and windows xp pro. Almost all my files are archived as rar,tar or tar.gz.. I have installed rar before and had it working fine. i had to re-install mandrake and now whenever i go to perform a rar -(whatever) it just spits me the rar --help stuff. I had this problem before and gave up on it. However now that i know it works i want it back on my clean mandrake installation.

It is from the rpm file that i installed it.

i tried to un-install it but it tells me that the rpm is not installed.. so i tried to install it and it told me its already installed?

anyhelp on how to force it to re-install over old file or remove all files?
