Randomly changing network settings with pcmcia
Running RH 8.0 Workstation on IBM T21 Laptop
I found some advice on getting my linksys wpc11 wireless pcmcia networking card to work properly and, yippee, it works.
Problem is I have to reconfigure it every time I boot up.
My thinkpad also has a miniPCI ethernet card built in and sometimes, but not always, it seems to recognize that.
So when I first got the pcmcia card working it was my only "hardware" in the network config dialog, so it became eth0 and I attached a wireless device connection to it.
When I next logged in it discovered my miniPCI card and made that eth0, bumping my wireless card to eth1 and causing my device setting to fail (because it was trying to use eth0 as a wireless device).
So I deleted the device and started again with eth1.
Next time I logged in the eth1 thing is gone and my device is attached to eth0.
There seems to be a different configuration every time I log in.
Furthermore when I run the network config (redhat-config-network) from a shell, I see this error in the shell:
Warning : Device eth1 has been compiled with version 13
of Wireless Extension, while we are using version 12.
Some things may be broken...
what gives?
