Random Reboots Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid i386 32 bit

I am running Ubuntu 8.10 and Windows Xp sp3 on two separate hard drives. I really like Ubuntu, but i am relatively new to the OS. Ubuntu randomly reboots a the most inopportune times and I can't figure out why. I could blame it on overheating, but it never does it when running XP. It does it mostly when I'm watching Google or youtube videos, but today it did it while downloading some tracks off of nicotine. If it weren't for this problem, I would never even boot XP. If anyone can help solve this problem it would be greatly appreciated. Just let me know if you need any log files or toher data, and I'll post it promptly. Thanks, 10/4

If it's because of overheating then there are 2 kernel modules that can help you save power. Run the command 'sudo modprobe acpi-cpufreq cpufreq_ondemand' and see if there is any improvement. To have these modules load automatically every time in boot - add these modules to your /etc/modules file.

An alternative to cpufreq_ondemand is cpufreq_conservative which saves more power and is ideal for laptops. The information is taken from this link (it's for Debian but should work the same on Ubuntu as well):
