RAID Controller Card?
I am about to install Red Hat for the very first time, can I do this on a partition of a disk witch is connected to a third party Raid controller card? Or does Linux need its own harddrive?

Yes you can, linux does not need it's own harddrive. However it might be easier if you know the name of the device first, so if you have something like Knoppix you might wanna plug that in to see what it calls your device.

What do you mean "name of the device"?
What is Knoppix?

When I boot with the RH Install CD will it detect the drive connected to the contoller card so that I can choose to install there?

Yes, it should ;) Sorry for the confusion. What I mean is that the device probably won't be called "/dev/hda1" such as the standard IDE devices are called for Primary/Secondary Master/Slave on the regular IDE controller.

Knoppix is a CD Based distro that helps a newcomer get a feel for linux before diving into it head first. It also helps when you are stuck/broken.

So I should download Knoppix?
How does it work?

BTW, thanks for all help...

Knoppix is cool enough that I suggest you do. It works... well it just does ;) You place the cd (after you burn it) in your CDROM drive, reboot, make sure your bios is set to boot from CD first, then watch Knoppix do it's magic.

Sound cool, how big is the knoppix .ISO file?

Never mind, thanks for all the help MasterC...
