Question

how do I change my host name?

is it hostname -v it didnt werk , but I'll try again.

It depends on the distro. Check your menus to see if there are any system configuration utilities. I know with Red Hat, setting the host name on the command line is worthless. The startup scripts read a value from a config file, and automatically set the hostname to that value on bootup. Mandrake might be the same. You'll have to hunt for it, unless someone familiar with Mandrake happens to swing by.
