Quicktime 4 Linux Installation

Dear All:

How do I install Quicktime 4 Linux? I followed the directions on the website and typed "tar jxf [package name]" and I don't know how to run it. Any hints?

Sincerely,
Richard

Is there a Quicktime for linux? That's new. Anyway, you are better off using mplayer:

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/

it supports a hell lot of codecs, including quicktime and is a superior media player then Apple's or MS for that matter ;)

If you still want to try installing that application you have, check out this link to learn how to install programs in Linux:

Good luck!

Thank you, but I also want to run things inside my Firefox browser. All it says is "need to install plugin" and then when I click on the puzzle piece icon to find plugins, it says it can't find the plugin. So, how do I get mplayer, which I have, to play it. Also, do Xine, XMMS, and Helix player do the same things as mplayer, cause I'd like to uninstall at least one of the 4 media players I have you know? It takes up space :D

Sincerely,
Richard

I think mplayer can do all the the other players can, from either gui and command line, but I could be wrong (as usual). Here is a list of plugins for firefox:

https://pfs.mozilla.org/plugins/

Here is a FAQ to install those plugins in Linux:

http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/firefox-linux.html

Since you have Fedora on your profile, here is the Firefox/Mplayer plugin for Fedora:

I hope it helps.

Good luck! ;)
