Questions with mounting cdrom
 

I have been trying to figure out how to mount a cdrom drive ive been reading and that your supposed to go /mnt/cdrom but... all i get is permission denied and then i looked that up and i read that i am supposed to change something with /etc/fstab well i tried going into root and typing that in but it just says permission denied and hmm if you could help me out here it would be greatly appreciated ty :)

/etc/fstab is a text file, so if you just tried typing that name, the permission denied error was because you're not allowed to execute it ;) Try using your favourite text editor to open that file instead.

Try your mount command as root to make sure everything is set up right, then move on to making it work for normal users.

need more specifics - what distro are you using? what type of CD? what are you trying to do exactly (ie, listen to music, install software, read data, etc.)?

Sorry im very new to linux but anyways for more specifics Distro - slackware 10 and im trying to play an audio cd :)

You do not need to mount an audio cd to play it, mounting is for file systems, and an audio cd does not contain a file system.

All you should have to do is make sure your cdplayer program is looking at the cdrom you have your audio cd in.

You don't need to mount an audio CD - in fact, you can't. You can use a tool called cdplay to control playing the CD though.

what CroMagnon + s34n said :) -- there are a lot of progs to play audio CDs - kscd if you have it installed, xmms (may need a plugin, I can't remember), etc.

hmm, well for one thing i accidently put in my cs source cd and i thought it was an audio cd -Doh- but anyways thank you all for your posts i appricate it :p
