Questions: External Drives, ALSA-Mixer

I have a HP Pavilion 510n with 384MB of RAM, 40 GB hard drive, running RHEL 3, and an Intel 82801AA AC'97 audio card (integrated.) I also have a Sony DRX-710U External Firewire DVD Burner. How can I make Linux see the drive? Also, where can I locate the "ALSAMIXER" file to unmute the volume? Thanks.

alsamixer is an executable, it can be everywhere you want it to be... To unmute the sound, just run it and set the necessary volume.
Smth about configuring ALSA
