question regarding Evolution Email
i have a question regarding Evolution Email, maybe someone can point me in the right direction. Im using redhat 9 and for my emails i use yahoo. i would like to set up Evolution with my yahoo email address if possible so that i dont have to go to yahoo's site and check my email. i have bellsouth as my ISP(DSL). here is what i've done so far
i have configured evolution in the box for email address i put my email('myemail@yahoo.com) Receiving Mail server type: POP host: mail.bellsouth.net username: the username provided by bellsouth Sending Mail servery type: SMTP host: mail.bellsouth.net here is my question, whenever i click on send/receive to see my emails, it only downloads the email send to my bellsouth account. I thought that by adding they email address i have with yahoo, i was going to be able to download all the emails send to the yahoo account. Can ayone tell me if im missing something? Thanks in advance |
Hi
In principle, it is of course possible to do what you are trying to do....but unfortunately, I don't think Yahoo allow you do download their email with a pop3 client anymore without paying for the privilage(it costs 19.99 per year I think). Btw - you were not doing it quite right. You need to setup two accounts in Evolution - one for your ISP and one for Yahoo (mail.yahoo.com). |
thanks lacerton. i'll have to do some research on the topic. how about hotmail?? do you also have to pay?
|
No, but you have to download and configure a program called hotwayd for incoming hotmail and also configure hotsmtpd for outgoing hotmail.
hotwayd.sourceforge.net |
thanks for all the suggestions, but i have already solved this problem
|
How? Could you post your solution in case anyone else has this problem?

Since my main email is with yahoo I followed lancerto's advise and did some research on the topic. As mentioned by Lancerto, yahoo requires you to pay a yearly fee in order for you to use their service. I thought it was worth it and subscribed to the service. My configuration is listed below:
Receiving Mail server type: POP host: pop.mail.yahoo.com username: the username provided yahoo Sending Mail servery type: SMTP host: smtp.mail.yahoo.com please note that this worked for me, not sure it would work for everyone. Also, as Vincent mentioned, you can use hotmail if you dont want to pay. |
Yahoo charges for POP
