Question re Internet Dialup time

Hi a very idiotic newbie question but atm I using the network device manager to activate my isdn connection so I can go online. This works fine but what im wondering is how do I check how long I have been dialled in for or is it possible to get it to log all the call durations? In windows one had the network connetion icon in systray what would the linux equivilent be?
