Question concerning Yast and drivers
Greetings,
I am new to the Linux scene and have installed SUSE 9.1 on my machine. It is a dual drive with Xp on the other drive. I have two questions: 1) I have a Epson Sylus CX5400 all-in-one (printer, scanner, copier) and am unable to get the scanner working with xsane. It does not detect the usb connection, so I thought that I would configure the scanner with Yast. The problem again arises that it does not recognize the scanner (it doesn't detect it at all). At any rate, is there a way for me to get the driver, or find out if it exists? If so how? 2) My second question is kind of like the first. I have a Microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse. The keyboard and mouse work fine but I can not use the scroll wheel at all. When I enter Yast and try to configure the mouse with the drivers listed, there doesn't appear to be one there that helps. Is there a way for me to get the driver, or find out if it exists? If so how? Bearing in mind that I am extremely new to all this and have only just successfully installed FireFox after several attempts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -TS- |
Hi, and welcome to LQ!
Ad 1) Been there, done that? google.com/linux A few of the links look very promising, even though I can't verify they'd work since I don't use SuSE or the Scanner ... Ad 2) Most more recent wheel-mice will be a IMPS/2 model ... if changing to that setting doesn't have the desired effect try adding the following line manually to your /etc/X11/XFree86.conf Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" in the Section "Input device" Identifier "MouseX" Good luck, Cheers, Tink |
Thanks for the welcome!
Well, I was able to get my mouse problem solved, thanks to your suggestion and will continue to work on the drivers for the scanner. I should have thought of googling the subject first. I'll try not to ask anymore easily answerale questions.:D -TS- |
