Question about updating Kernel


I currently have Mandrake 2.4.8-26mdk - if I want to update my kernel, Can i simply jump to the ?

yes but there will probably be a fair bit of work to do, easier if you just upgrade to the latest version of Mandrake.

If you do make the jump. make sure you get and install the latest version of module-init-tools. The modutils that came with the 2.4 kernel won't work right with 2.6.

Yea OK - I cannot get my sound to work using ALSA or OSS - it is a AC97 built in to my mobo - I am using Mandrake - I can see the progress bar playing in ALSA PLayer but no sound .
