Question About Torrent

I'm getting ready to try Linux-Lite. On the download page I was on there is a download for linux-lite-1.0.6-32bit.iso.torrent. What is this, and do I need to download this? Thanks, I hope.

Azureus or Bittorrent are examples of torrent download managers that share the load with other down-loaders i.e: share networks can be faster and more reliable.

So torrent is like a peer-to-peer download option.

Exactly. See here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent

Getting Linux by torrent can sometimes be a bit slow, as there aren't usually a lot of people involved. The last time I used it was for CrunchBang: the first attempt threatened to take 24 hours! I tried again later and there was no problem. The attraction for a small distro like Linux Lite is that it's less traffic on their server, so it keeps the costs down.

I think you'll like Lite: I rated it 8/10 when I reviewed it.
