Question about KDE/Qt and Gnome/GTK+

Recently I've been dabbling with various DEs, mostly in the Gnome department, but also in the KDE land, and I have some questions regarding the rendering of programs in both of these environments.

Why does a Qt application look bad on a Gnome environment, and why does a GTK+ application look bad on a KDE environment? Why do they only look good in their native environment? I have only basic knowledge when it comes to graphic libraries, but I assume that they somehow communicate with the X Server and put it in charge of rendering stuff on the screen. How come stuff gets rendered so differently depending on the DE? Native X Server applications look the same everywhere, as is to be expected...

Cheers

Because GTK+ and Qt have thier own separate themes (themes for one toolkit do not work in another) and don't have exactly the same functionality.
